Emil Speaking: Young Lawyers Division of SABA North America: A Culturally-Informed Approach to Legal Ethics.

This is one of three CLEs the SABA NA YLD Committee is planning that cater to early-career South Asian lawyers. This CLE will explore ethical decision-making through a culturally informed lens, with particular attention to challenges often faced by early-career South Asian attorneys. We hope to have a candid discussion about how cultural norms such as deference to hierarchy, conflict avoidance, and risk minimization can at times create tension with core professional obligations, including the duty to exercise independent judgment, challenge improper conduct, and advocate zealously on behalf of clients under the rules of professional conduct.
